of Various Lavender Species

This purple, peaceful flower—lavender—is commonly associated with relaxation, sleep support, and deliciously aromatic soaps and candles. You may have even heard the term “lavender therapy” on marketing for bath and body products. But is this accurate? Many don’t realize there are several varieties of lavender, and while some can be soothing, like Lavandula angustifolia, others, like Lavandula intermedia (also known as lavandin), are not. So, how do you differentiate the aromatherapy uses of the main lavender varieties? Why is it important to understand the difference between lavender essential oil that contains the ester linalyl acetate and the variety high in the ketone camphor? And, does organically grown lavender produce different therapeutic effects than conventionally grown? This session will explore the biological and pharmacological properties of several lavender varieties to empower you to select the right oil for the job!
